Two more sleeps until Tokyo!

Amidst last minute running around and packing and laundry and wanting desperately to sleep and trying to listen to some learn Japanese podcasts, trying to corral all of my chargers, electronics and obsessively checking the location of my passport every ten minutes, I am really excited about Japan! (although at this point I don't know if it is the fact that I will be able to get some solid sleep on the plane.

The one bummer is no crocheting on the plane (no crochet hooks, no scissors...)

Sushi! Temples! Downtown Tokyo! Mountains!

Okay, I've got to make itunes playlists and go to sleep

Crocheted craziness!

Ok, I know I have a burger post on deck (Julie and I went to the Poncabird on wednesday, and that post is coming, I promise!)

However, I have a new little obsession. It began making the eggs and bacon from the last post, but I have been busily creating more and more different food items out of yarn.

to go with the eggs and bacon, we have some bread and butter:

And if it's vegetables that you want, there's some peas in a pod:

And carrot!

Fruit? how about some grapes?

and my favorite (second to the eggs)  a BURGER!

Click Here to see the components.

up on deck are: pear, Apple, pie, more peas in a pod, maybe some corn on the cob? Chicken drumstick. I'm also open to suggestions.

Crafty!

So I have a tiny cousin, who is 18 months old.  He's super cute.  He also got a play kitchen for Christmas, and since then I've been meaning to make him some play food.

I had the day off today, so I decided to get cracking.

There is the egg shell, the egg, and the bacon.  The egg fits into the egg shell, and looks like this:

All and all, I am inordinately pleased with myself.  They are super cute! I can't wait to make more!  (first up, some more bacon. More bacon is always needed.

#23 Do twelve random acts of kindness for strangers.

The reason that I put it on the list in the first place is that I have been the recipient of some wonderful random acts of kindness. When I was in my car accident in June, I was walking back to my apartment (the accident happenend about a mile from my house, and I figured I'd walk) I was loaded down with bags and various stuff from my car, and I was really regretting my decision to walk home, walking slower and slower, almost on the verge of exhausted tears, when, 3/4 of the way, a woman who lives in my apartment complex that I didn't know pulled over and asked me if I needed a ride up to my place. I had been thinking that I could not walk any more, I was in pain, my adrenaline was crashing, and this woman, who I've never seen again, was my hero.

The good feeling that I had from that day stayed with me for a long time. Just when you think that all is lost, sometimes the universe sends you a random, and kind stranger.

So you may have heard that The Mid Atlantic region has had some pretty wicked snow for the last week. The main roads are okay, but many of the side roads are still packed in snow (like the one I live on, for example). I had lunch at work, and then with my friends Katie and Mandy, went for a Starbucks run to get tea after we ate. There was crazy traffic getting out of the Starbucks onto the main road, and we were waiting in the traffic in Katie's car for about fifteen minutes. As we were pulling up to the light, the car in front of us got stuck in the snow/slush roads, and began to back, almost hitting Katie's car. It stopped, spun it's wheels, and was stuck again. I jumped out of the car, asked the guy if he needed a push, which he said he did. He got back into the car, hit the gas, and I got low, pushed forward, and pushed the car out by myself! Triumph! the car made the light, and I ran back to Katie's car, where we promptly got stuck at the red light. It was really awesome to do something for a random stranger, and I can't wait until I get the next opportunity!

Anatomy of a SNOWPOCALYPSE

So you may have heard we've had a massive snowpocalypse of doom. 30 inches over the weekend.  First pictures of the craziness:

This is what my car looked like on Saturday.

This is the path from our front walkway from the apartment complex. Do you see the top of the railing? yeah, the snow is almost as high.

And the giant hill in front of my apartment complex, there was much sledding down it, until the street was (mostly) plowed, because the plow created some hazardous conditions, that would drop you into the street.

And more snow to come this week. (And weekend).
