End Of October Round Up

Tracking the status on the monthly/ weekly aspects of the List.

1. Read a book a month that I haven't read before.
This month's book was The Portable Obituary By Michael Largo- It was funny and informative. and made me sad when I found out Elizabeth Montgomery is dead.

6. Send real mail to someone once a month. Done!

7. Listen to one new album a month. I listened to Catie Curtis' new album. The Sweet Life, but I didn't buy it, because A) it was a little sacharine sweet for me, and B) I'm trying to curb my itunes spending. I also listened to Nervous but Excited's new album, Homespun, which is fantastic.

19. Learn one new Baltimore/Maryland thing to do a month. My new favorite Baltimore place to go is Fell's point. I have been there a bunch of times this month, mostly to go to the Blue Moon Cafe, which is FANTASTIC, but also for the Fell's Point festival, that my sister and I happened upon accidentally, Pitango Gelato, ten thousand vilages, and the Su Casa store, that I would like everything that is in there. It is also nice to walk down to the edge of the pier and look out at the boats on the water- on the weekend, there are a lot of sailboats out there.

24. Take more pictures; update my flickr page more frequently Done! I took pics when Jamie and Amber were visiting, I took them when Tim was visiting, and I've been uploading pictures to flickr and facebook.

26. Buy and read the Washington post one day a week. I've been buying the Washington post on wednesdays to read at lunch, and as long as i get it today, I'll be suceeding in my goal!

My sister knows me really well

Because I was giggling at this for like an hour.

Just call me Val-a-wii

The more I play my wii fit, the more I like it. I am unlocking more games, working on my balance (which is dismally bad) and working out. I like that it tracks my weight- It keeps me more accountable than I thought it would. I actually consider what I am eating, thinking "well, I haven't done my body test today... so, maybe a pass on the cheese" I'm still just a week in, but I can already feel it working, and the soreness from the boxing that I've been doing, i can totally feel in my arms.

plus, it's hella fun, and I love to introduce it to people.

Number 6

There are people in my life that are excited about my list for reasons that are not woo, Val's improvement! (although they are that too!) Those people look at the list and smile, because they realize that they are going to be recipients on the list of the things that I am doing.

One of those peopls is Rebecca. Rebecca is spending this year living on the face of the sun (i.e. Tuscon, Arizona, someplace I don't know why people live there On Purpose) Rebecca is there for school, spending the year learning things and painting things, and falling off her bike into catci.

One of the things that she cannot get in Tuscon is Kashi Mighty Bites. So, as part of my List-ing, (and also because she is homesick and I wanted to cheer her up) I sent her a box of cereal. heh! When I went to the shipping store, and the woman asked me what was in it, and I told her, she gave me the oddest look. I'm guessing not a whole lot of people send a single box of cereal.

So anyway, my October mail is sent!

Things That Make Me Happy

I got a Wii Fit yesterday, after a 3 week search. No online retailers had it, no brick and mortar stores had it, the lack of wii fit in my life was making me sad. So I signed up for an internet service that alerted me of wii fit availability. So yesterday, I was alerted to Amazon having the Fit, and I was happy! woo, wii! and by the time I logged into the Amazon page to buy it, they were all sold out. Sadness and dispair. I thought that other retailers may have some, if amazon did, so I called two gamestops, and the second one had it! I left work a little early, and picked it up.
I love the wii fit! Even though I've only had it a day, I think that if I stick to the program, and do the things that aren't as fun (the strength training, versus the soccer ball game, or skiing)
The only depressing part, is that my wii fit age (that they calculate through balance activities) is 34. Here's hoping that number goes down fast!

27 in the 27th

So for the last few years, I have been making a list, of things that I want to do, corresponding to the age that I am. For example, 25 things to do, in my 25th year. When this year's list rolled around, I made it, but wanted to add some accountability, so I've decided to write about my achievements as I get things done on my list!

So without further ado...

1. Read a book a month that I haven't read before.
2. Find a new apartment.
3. Hike the trail at Oregon Ridge.
4. Go and see a movie with subtitles in a theater.
5. Go on a date.
6. Send real mail to someone once a month.
7. Listen to one new album a month.
8. Cook all the recipes in a cookbook.
9. Take a belly dancing class.
10. Get a decent haircut, someplace that is not Supercuts or Hair Cuttery.
12. Take a cooking class.
13. Have a five course dinner party.
14. Learn a new craft.
15. Finish five knitting or crocheting projects.
16. Be more assertive at work.
17. Go to DC by myself for a day and just walk around.
18. Finish the blanket (crochet).
19. Learn one new Baltimore/Maryland thing to do a month.
20. Create a new drink (boozy!)
21. Make handmade Christmas gifts
22. Go to an RU women's basketball game.
23. Be more considerate.
24. Take more pictures; update my flickr page more frequently
25. Visit one state that is not on the eastern seaboard.
26. Buy and read the Washington post one day a week.
27. Make an entire meal from items procured at the farmer's market

So this year's list is a mix of one day things, monthly things, and things that I want to do in general all year long.

Wish me luck!
